Tufts Magazine Spot Illustrations

Here are a set from a recent editorial illustration freelance gig I did for Tuft's Magazine. It was sort of a rush job because of the holidays, but I'm pleased with the colors. It is very tough to go back to doing whimsical backgrounds when I've been designing patterns for over a year for Converse now. A little out of practice! I'm working on getting back to my fighting weight though. Haha! Most of the freelance I get is character design related, so it was nice to go back to the balmy old song and dance of editorial.

I'm also going to post the initial sketches, before client changes here, simply because I think they're kind of fun. I am particularly mournful of the loss of the "Treasure Trunk" mass of magical dudes and sparkles, because come on.
